What We Are About

What To Expect / Before You Join

We are a Black Belt school with integrity.  Achieving a Black Belt in our system is not easy.  It takes dedication and a lot of work.  In some martial arts systems, the rank of black belt is received quickly and emphasis is not placed on quality, perseverance, and goal-setting.  Our system is robust and as a student of United, you will learn more than you would learn likely elsewhere.  Each belt rank has it's own requirements to achieve before the student is considered eligible to promote to the next rank.  Attendance is not the only requirement, as we strive to push each student to be their absolute very best, so that when they do achieve their black belt rank, they will have a strong foundation to build upon.

Some of what is expected of each student:

  • Arriving to class ready to give 110%

  • Using proper respect inside and outside of the studio (Inside the studio by demonstrating required bowing, using positive language and encouraging others, taking care of the studio and its equipment, following the required etiquette and behavior, outside the studio by representing their studio in the best possible way, showing respect to others and their parents and teachers)

  • Wearing the required class attire (approved uniform)

  • Participating in ALL aspects of class (technique, conditioning, sparring)

  • Attendance at tournaments - we are a competition school and tournament participation is required for rank

  • Purchase of sparring gear - Each student must have sparring gear before they reach the rank of yellow belt

Some of what is expected of parents:

  • Making sure your child has their uniform at EVERY class and arriving on time for class

  • Supporting the efforts of the instructors to teach your child everything they are there to learn including but not limited to respect and self-discipline

  • Taking care of the studio by not leaving messes and keeping other children who are not in class under your constant supervision

  • Using proper language
